hand pointed at the officers or in that direction of them refusing their command to put the weapon down. at that .1 of the u.s. marshals discharged his weapon striking the male a couple times. >> reporter: investigators say robledo's gun had an obliterated serial number warranted for the july shooting of a man on the 400 block of west huntington. >> there's a individual sitting on the steps at that location. this male with two other individuals pull up in a vehicle. he exits the vehicle and begins firing at this individual. the name of the u.s. marshall has not been released. i'm live outside of police headquarters chad pradelli channel6 "action news." >> thank you chad. former congressman chaka fattah is headed to prison for 10 years. fattah sentence was handed down by a judge who said it was quote astonished at the long time congressman's actions ." the democrat was convicted earlier this year. prosecutors said fattah used government grants and charitable money to fund his

personal and campaign expenses. fattah must surrender by january 25th. >> it was a somber day for new jersey state police. today the force said goodbye to a rookie trooper who was killed in the line of duty. hundreds of law enforcement officers stood attention in the rain to honor trooper frankie williams. he died last week while responding to a report of an erratic driver. a car crossed the median on route 55 in millville hitting williams' car head on. today he was remembered as reliable and enthusiastic. >> meant everything to me. no matter what he always had my back and it's just -- it's unbelievable. >> he was one of those kind of guys that his smile was just -- would just take your breath away. he was a good person. >> williams' loved ones said he always dreamed of being a state trooper and had started on the job less than a year ago.

he was just married in september to his high school sweetheart. frankie williams was 31 years old. >> new jersey state police are trying to figure out what led up to a deadly early morning crash on the atlantic city expressway. it happened at 5:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes in pleasantville where a honda and a new jersey transit bus collided. the driver of the honda died. no one else was seriously hurt. so far police have not released a potential cause. >> on the weather front a soggy morning gave way to a cloudy and breezy afternoon and tonight we're dealing with some chilly temps but nothing compared to what's in store for us later this week. as we look live at city hall from our temple university sky6 cam tonight winter still more than a week away according to the calendar but it's going to feel like it this week. we may even see some snow. with more on that meteorologist cecily tynan live at the big board with a preview of the accuweather forecast. skiers like myself are chomping at the it. >> you're ready to go skiing?

ski season opens up this week. they did get a touch of snow in the poconos this morning but this storm system as expected pulled in a lot of warm air so mainly rain. satellite6 along with action radar showing tough way to start a monday morning with that cold rain about a half inch in philadelphia. however, the day really improving as we head through it. by 5 o'clock you can see a lot of clouds breaking especially out to the west. you get to see a few peeks of sunshine and temperatures today on the rebound. we have three days in a row, friday, saturday, sunday with afternoon highs stuck in the 30's. today made it up to 50 degrees which is actually a few degrees above normal. compare this to last december, we didn't have one day with temperatures only in the 30's last december. it was our warmest on record. we had quite a few days of temperatures in the 60's and 70's but that is history. we've got some very cold air on the way. if you look up to the north, temperatures as low as 27 degrees below zero. the polar vortex will be making an appears by the end

police officers who were trying execute a search warrant. happened early this morning about 100 miles south of atlanta. a drug task force was raiding a home when a man inside sudden the started shooting. police returned fire and killed the suspect s1 of the wounded officers was that rushed into surgery. the other was treated and released from the hospital. well, today friends and family said their final goodbyes to former nfl player joe mcknight. the 28-year-old who had played with the new york jets and the kansas chiefs was shot and killed early this month in an alleged road rage incident. the other driver ronald gasser stands charged with manslaughter. police say he admitted to firing the deadly shot. mcknight was laid to rest in his home state of louisiana. >> six months ago today dozens of people were shot and killed when a gunman opened fire inside the pulse nightclub in orlando florida. mourners gathered for a moment of silence at 2:02 this morning the time gunman omar mateen opened fire in that nightclub june 12th.

49 people died in the attack. mateen was shot and killed by police. >> ♪ >> turning to health check tonight the nfl's billion dollar concussion settlement is staying in place. the u.s. supreme court today rejected challenges to the plan clearing the way for payouts to finally begin to retired players. the settlement covers more than 20,000 players over the next 65 years. the league estimates nearly a third of former players could develop alzheimer's or moderate dementia. the players accused the league of hiding what it knew about the connection between concussions and degenerative brain disease. >> about 2 million children will be treated in emergency rooms this year for sports related concussions. many may not get the best care, though, because a new national survey by ucla health shows a vast majority of parents are following outdated advice. if a child shows symptoms for more than a week, three out of four parents say they would likely wake that child throughout the night as they're directed to do but now

doctors say that only makes things worse. >> headaches going to be worse, their memory is going to be worse, their mood is going to be worse. all those things that we monitor for concussion will get worse if we don't let them sleep. >> survey also found 84 percent of parents would make children refrain from any physical activity but the doctor says that the injury is stable and the activity is safe, kids should exercise after the first few days. and children should stay connector to their peers. he says it's not always necessary either to keep your kids away from electronic devices. >> well, more students are graduating from high school in camden. paymon rouhanifard the city's superintendent made the announcement during today's state of schools event. last year 70 percent of students graduated from camden high schools up from 49 percent in 2012. last year's dropout rate was 12 percent down 9 percent in four years time. this change comes less than three years after the

beginning of the camden commitment. the school district's plan to provide better opportunities for students in the city. u.s. education under secretary ted mitchell visited the philadelphia military academy to talk about the free application for federal students aid. the application will be available earlier next year in hopes of getting more students help to attend college. philadelphia school superintendent william hite was also on hand to discuss the city's role in boosting the completion. >> peco lighting up the holidays. satellite6 along with action radar slowing the front that brought us the morning soaking has moved off to the east. now there are a couple systems i'm watching. there's weak low pressure near louisiana. that will be tracking to the south at the same time there's a front that's pushing into the great lakes. so, we'll kind of get a squeeze play between the two systems. what this means a lot of clouds moving in tomorrow, maybe few snow showers in the poconos. tonight though just some patchy clouds, seasonably chilly, 32 in philadelphia, in this case allentown, 29 in wilmington and cape may 33. future tracker showing best chance of seeing sun will be early in the morning at 8 o'clock good amount of sunshine but then as we head through the day this is when the clouds roll in and again a few snow showers expected where they want to see the snow up across the poconos and then that system moves on but then we've got an arctic blast that be moving in wednesday night. so, tomorrow definitely on the cool side. temperatures only in the 40's, not as brutal as this past week. more clouds and sunshine,

officials in the u.s. intelligence community say that russia was expecting hillary clinton to win in november. so they did this to try and weaken her when she took office. but now the big question here in washington is what should the u.s. do next? growing calls for a thorough investigation into russia's hacking during the presidential campaign. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell was one. >> russians are not our friends. it defies belief that somehow republicans isn't thenity senate are reluctant to review russian tactics or ignore them. >> reporter: the white house wouldn't comments on what russia's motives may be but the president's spokesman drew a line between the kremlin's interference and president-elect donald trump. >> he didn't -- you didn't need app security clearance to figure out who benefitd from malicious russian cyber activity. >> reporter: over the weekend on twitter and fox news, trump slamming a washington post report that russia interfered in the election to give him an advantage. >> i think it's ridiculous.

i think it's just another excuse. i don't believe it. >> reporter: trump has never believed the russian government was behind the hacking. this despite 17 known u.s. intelligence agencies concluding that the russian government directed the hacking. a spokesman for the kremlin today saying the charge quote has nothing to do with reality." this public showdown between the president-elect and the intelligence community unusual. especially in light of the statement by trump on fox news when asked about his infrequent intelligence briefings. >> i'm like a smart person. i don't have to be told the same thing and the same words every single day for the next eight years. >> reporter: and today some members of the electoral college have asked the government for briefing on russia's election interference and today the clinton campaign put out a statement saying they support those efforts and those electors should have their questions addressed. reporting live from washington karen traverse channel6 "action news." rick. >> karen thank you for that report.

turkey's police rounded up more than 200 members of a a kurdish political party as the country mourned the victims of saturday's deadly bombing attack. thousands of residents attended several public funerals in istanbul. officials now say 44 people died in the twin bombings outside of a soccer stadium in istanbul. police say the 235 people picked up are allegedly connected to a terrorist organization. french officials have detained 11 people suspected of helping the man who drove his truck into a crowd in nice france on bastille day. officials say the suspects are from eastern europe. they're suspected of a role in supplying weapons and logistical support. the july 14 attack killed 86 people. isis claimed responsibility. >> the man on trial for killing former new orleans saints player will smith told the court he did in it self-defense. the jury didn't believe him. following a week of testimony cardale hayes was found guilty of manslaughter over the weekend. it was last april when hayes

shot and killed smith following a road rage incident in new orleans. >> at the end of the day it's not a win. losing a man and another young man going to jail, you know, that kind of tells you what situation it is. and in that sense it's a loss for everybody. >> hayes now faces up to 40 years in prison. he will be sentenced february 17th. world news tonight with david muir will have much more on the will smith road rage verdict as well as the investigation into russia's possible hacking of the u.s. presidential election. you can watch all that of following "action news" at 6:00. >> in other news police are searching for the suspect who shot and killed a 17-year-old early this morning in west philadelphia. investigators say the teen was standing at the corner of 60th and market streets when he was shot several times. he was pronounced dead at the scene. police are looking for a white suv that fled that area. police say someone stabbed a woman several times early this morning in north philadelphia. happened around one:00 here on the 2800 block of north howard street.

the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital in stable condition. authorities say the woman knew her attacker but they've yet top find that person. and police are jet yet to release the name of the driver who was killed in a crash here in west philadelphia last night. happened around 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon along the 5300 block of parkside avenue near fairmount park. police say the 28-year-old driver had a medical emergency of some sort behind the wheel which caused him to slam his suv into a wall. he was rushed to lankenau hospital but could not be saved. no one else was hurt. >> a septa employee was hurt on the job in philadelphia's feltonville section this morning. firefighters responded to the 4500 block of north third street at 10:00 a.m. investigators tell "action news" a fire started in the welding shop and a worker was that burned. that person was taken to temple's burn center for treatment. from our delaware news room now these four people are facing alleged charges for allegedly running a secret meth lab in dover. authorities say 50-year-old

clark row row investigators say they found equipment and ingredients to make and sell meth. >> new jersey lawmakers fighting to get equal pay for women in the state. senate majority leader loretta weinberg and other senators joined to show support tour legislation that would close the gender pay a gap. they plan to introduce the bill next week. governor chris christie has vetoed several gender pay bills in the past because of concerns over penalties associated with the legislation. >> we're paying the price for an accident rick and monica. paying in the form of delays along 95 southbound side as you come south of penn's landing through this points right under the walt whitman bridge. these are the southbound lanes, the crash is now pushed

off to the side but you can see headed down towards broad street it is a slow go. so, if you're headed down to wwe monday night raw at the wells fargo center watch out, it is going to be a slow go there on 95. vine street expressway is less slow than the last time we looked at it. westbound side in fact a delay has cleared out pretty nicely because the crash westbound at broad street is gone. eastbound those stacking up as you head toward the merge with i-95. on the big picture we're watching a crash this afternoon in kensington along frankford at lehigh. also have a broken down vehicle along city avenue southbound side at 66th street so that's definitely slowing us down there. and just a typical fare on the schuylkill with some speeds in the 40's. we've definitely seen worse in that neck of the woods. still have our issues on the black horse pike in washington township. it's a crash and then a broken down vehicle both occupying the left lane. first at greentree, then at ganttown. we're also watching a crash elsewhere in that gloucester county in woodbury along south broad street at barber avenue.

>> police investigating an elaborate northeast france that is similar to a movie plot. a group of four people were able to steal dozens of kilograms of gold from an armored truck. the suspects forted the truck off the highway broke inside it and locked the delivery men in the truck. the thieves set one of their own cars on fire before getting away. police say the stolen gold is worth $1 million. canadian firefighters used their axes and a lot of muscle to rescue a freezing 500-pound moose from an icy river. take a look. the dramatic scene captured on video here. at first rescuers in new brunswick say the moose appeared agitated by workers cutting a path to the ice to get to her. eventually she calmed down and just watched. once the path was cleared the moose walked back to shore and eventually ran off. the entire operation took about 90 minutes. >> hm. a california woman's drive to

"action news" reporter vernon odom is live outside the federal building tonight. vernon a-very difficult day for the former congressman. >> reporter: indeed, jim, but he certainly knew it was coming. chaka fattah once one of philadelphia's most powerful politicians is going away for a decade. there's no early parole in the federal court system. he was also ordered to pay over $600,000 in restitution. but this was far lighter than what the federal prosecutors had called for. as court ended one of fattah's lawyers told him a 10 year sentence way the "best we could expect." fattah had acknowledged his extensive wrongdoing over a seven year stretch but asked the george take into account his 37 years in elected office generating millions in funding for education programs for the disadvantaged housing for the poor and the advancement of neuroscience. he spoke briefly with
